Christopher Zook

Christopher Zook
Chairman & Chief Investment Officer

Christopher Zook is the Founder, Chairman, and Chief Investment Officer of CAZ Investments. He has more than 30 years of experience investing in both traditional and alternative asset classes. Christopher recently co-authored “The Holy Grail of Investing,” with Tony Robbins, which became a #1 New York Times Bestseller. Christopher was honored with the Texas Alternative Investments Association’s (TAIA) Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution and sustained support of the industry in Texas. He is a regular contributor to major media outlets, including CNBC, Fox Business, and Bloomberg. Prior to starting CAZ Investments in 2001, Christopher served in senior leadership positions with Oppenheimer, Prudential Securities, Lehman Brothers, and Paine Webber.

Christopher is actively involved in public policy and frequently serves as a resource to state and local officials. In 2019, Christopher was appointed by the Governor to serve on the State of Texas Pension Review Board, where he chairs the Investment Committee. He also recently served two terms as a member of the Greater Houston Partnership’s Executive Committee and is a past President of the “C” Club of Houston.

Christopher is a graduate of Texas Tech University where he was honored as a Distinguished Alumni. A lifelong Houstonian, he is a former Vice-Chairman of the Deacons and serves on the Finance Committee at Second Baptist Church. He has held leadership positions on a variety of charitable boards, including his current role on the board of Elizabeth Ruth’s Home, an organization helping adults with autism. Christopher previously served as President of the Board of Trustees of Avondale House and President of The Children’s Fund. He is a proud father to Christopher, Jr. (and daughter-in-law, Cecelia Zook, and grandson “Tripp”) and husband to his high school sweetheart, Lisa.

Michael serves as Chief of Staff at CAZ Investments. He operates directly alongside the Chairman to ensure the execution of business objectives across the organization. Michael is also responsible for portfolio management, sourcing, and monitoring investments and themes. Additionally, Michael facilitates the ability of outside investors, including family offices, registered investment advisors, and institutions, to co-invest with the firm and our principals & Shareholders. He also serves on the firm’s Executive and Investment Committees.

Michael brings a robust set of leadership and investing experience to CAZ. Prior to joining CAZ, Michael served as President, Chief Operating Officer, & Chief Financial Officer of PlantSwitch, a bioplastics compounding company that turns plants into plastic. Before PlantSwitch, Michael worked for Thomist Capital, a market-neutral long-short hedge fund, where he helped manage a portfolio of downstream and renewable fuels stocks. Michael began his career at CAZ Investments, serving as right hand to the Chairman.

Michael graduated valedictorian from Southern Methodist University with degrees in Finance, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering. While at SMU, Michael was a member of the EnCap and LCM Alternative Asset Management Center and served as a Fellow for the Don Jackson Center for Financial Studies. Michael was also President of the Boulevard Investment Group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit investment fund that donates gains to the University to help fund scholarships, and is now an active board member. Michael is as passionate a golfer as you will ever find and seeks to give back to the game in any way he can.

Michael serves as Senior Vice President – Capital Formation. He is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment themes as well as monitoring existing investments. Michael also facilitates the ability of outside partners including Ultra High Net Worth investors, Family Offices, Registered Investment Advisors, and Endowments & Foundations to co-invest alongside CAZ principals and shareholders.

Michael has over 30 years of alternative investment experience across asset class, strategy, and geography. During the first half of his career, he gained extensive experience as an analyst, trader, and portfolio manager. Michael successfully managed a $4 billion securities portfolio for an insurance company and served as the head trader for a bank’s proprietary fund, actively trading bonds, loans, credit default swaps, and structured credit. Since 2008, his focus shifted to sourcing equity and debt capital for alternative investments by identifying and conducting due diligence on opportunities within private equity, private credit, and real estate sectors.

Michael earned his BBA from the University of Michigan with a concentration in Accounting and Real Estate, and he earned his MBA from the University of Chicago, majoring in Finance and International Business. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst. Though originally from the Midwest, he has lived in Charlotte, NC for over a decade. Outside of work, he enjoys yoga, swimming, pickleball, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Mark serves as Senior Vice President – Capital Formation. He is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment themes as well as monitoring existing investments. Mark also facilitates the ability of outside investors including family offices, registered investment advisors, and institutions to co-invest with the firm and our principals & shareholders.

Mark has over 15 years of alternative asset management and investment banking experience across asset class, strategy, and geography. He began his career at Bear Stearns & Co. in the Equity Sales & Trading group covering institutional and hedge fund accounts. Mark also worked at Renaissance Technologies as a member of the Institutional Sales and Consultant Relations team. Previously he worked at Institutional Global Investors (IGI), an alternative investment platform dedicated to Private Market and Hedge Fund strategies in China and Emerging Asia, as well as alongside Princeton Economist Dr. Burton G. Malkiel creating more intelligent exposure to the region. Most recently, Mark served as Senior Vice President in the Capital Advisory Group at Lazard Ltd. in San Francisco. While there, Mark was responsible for business development, strategic relationships, and capital raising activities with family office and institutional investors.

Mark graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly, SLO) with a B.A. in Business/Organizational Communications and Finance. Mark is a former Investment & Endowment Committee Board Member of The Olympic Club in San Francisco, and Advisory Board Member of Always Dream Foundation. Currently he is a Member of The Milken Institute Young Leaders Circle (YLC). Mark is a lifelong San Francisco Bay Area native and calls the east bay community of Diablo home. Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, fly fishing, golf, skiing, and travel.
